School Community Council – Parent Member Application

As you probably know, all schools like ours, that are members of Schoolsworks Academy Trust, have School Community Councils, which replaced Local Governing Bodies in 2016.  These groups play a valuable role in supporting the school and in keeping each school effectively connected to its wider community.  School Community Councils are made up from a mixture of staff, parents and members of the local community.  Members of each SCC actively support the work of both the Trust and the school in delivering a high quality education for our children. This governance role involves working with the school’s leadership team to keep the work of the school under constant review by acting as a critical friend to the school.

We currently have two vacancies for parent  members to join our SCC to help support the work of our school and our Academy Trust.  The advert is below.  To find out more about the role, please do look at the supporting documentation, which is available from Main Reception at River Beach Primary School.

We are looking for two parents to become members of our School Community Council (SCC), who are dedicated and committed to supporting the work of our school and our academy trust.

A little more information about SCCs

In order to fulfil its function effectively, the work of the SCC is divided across six portfolios, with every SCC member being involved in at least one portfolio:

  1. Teaching, Learning and Performance Portfolio (to raise standards of teaching and learning)
  2. Safeguarding and Child Protection Portfolio (to ensure pupil happiness, welfare and safety)
  3. Finance and Audit Portfolio (the efficient, appropriate and compliant use of local finances)
  4. Health & Safety and Premises Portfolio (to ensure school premises are safe and secure and a positive learning environment)
  5. Senior Leadership Team Liaison and School Support Portfolio (to support the academy school’s management team)
  6. Community Engagement and Fundraising Portfolio (to ensure effective engagement within the school community)

Appointment Process

Applicants are asked to complete the application form attached which will need to be received at the school no later than 4.00pm on Monday 17th December 2018.  Applicants will then have an informal interview with the Head of School and Chair of SCC.  If successful at this stage, candidates will have a further interview with the CEO for Schoolsworks, who will then make a recommendation to the Trust Board on the suitability of the candidate.  As mentioned above, if there are more successful and suitable applicants than vacancies then the names will be put to a ballot of the parent body.
