We are proud to say that we now have a Peer Mediation Team at the school. We have been working with Peaceworks and a team from across the academy trust to train staff and children in mediation skills. Peer Mediation is a life-skill which we hope will provide all our children with another way to sort out life’s little hiccups. The scheme is used widely in other schools in Schoolsworks and was pioneered in Edward Bryant where it has been working successfully since 2003.
Our team of Year 6 pupils have been trained to help their peers on the playground. They are being given blue hi-vis jackets so that they are easy to spot when on duty. The solar dome will be their place for mediation, where all the tools they need will be stored.
Following a clear process, disputes can be deescalated and the parties involved satisfied that there is an agreed outcome. Children can of course still find an adult to help them if they wish to do so.
