Junior Neighbourhood Watch

River Beach became the first school in our locality to pilot a Junior Neighbourhood Watch project.

Children from Years 5 and 6 joined an after school club to learn about how communities work together to keep each other safe.  They met local police, Magistrates, County Council Emergency plan operatives and members of West Sussex Neighbourhood Watch leaders.  There was a police video to challenge their powers of observation and searching discussions about keeping ourselves and others safe in a range of situations.

Children were fascinated by the model court and acted out a session in  court trying to work out if the accussed was guilty.  Very thought provoking.  The project ended with a presentation ceremony attended by local dignatories and District Police Commander for Arun. Pip Taylor.

The children enjoyed lots of publicity in the local press as well as Police and Neighbourhood watch publications.
